Oh! Central Park! - The boats and Alice.

We've been back for more than a week now and in  a few days we are off again. We've been, however, even if it is for a short period of time, trying to get back to our routine. Or whatever you call it during summer vacation. 

The weather has been amazing lately. Sunny but not too warm. Yesterday, I took the kids to Central Park and we decided to rent one of the model boats at the park's Conservatory Water. Everything was nice about the experience. The quietness of the water, the calmly way the boats move around the pond, the excitement of the kids, the nice breeze while I watched them seated below the trees, the birds chirping, the ducks swimming around the boats. Exactly what I needed yesterday and what we frequently need when living in big metropolis - some quietness and nature.

Just next to the pond, there's a huge sculpture representing Alice in Wonderland. The kids love to climb on top of her head. 

The Weekender - Off on vacation

Just read that it's very important for our brain to disconnect of everything and have some leisure time. Nothing new here, but always a good reminder. So I'll disconnect now for the next couple of weeks.

Cooking with children - Making popsicles

We've had some really hot days in New York lately. So the other day we decided to make some home-made popsicles. The good thing with this ice cream "maker" is that you don't need to wait for hours to have your ice cream. They are ready in a few minutes.
Of course, the kids helped me. Otherwise it wouldn't have been fun at all.

I cut the watermelon...

...and they placed the pieces into the blender (F had the idea to put it on the ground, so P could reach it as well)

P.S: This is a great way to give some fruit to the picky eaters!

Book of the week - Iggy Peck Architect

F received this book for his birthday and we loved it! I had seen it many times in the book stores and was already considering buying it, so it really was a great gift. 

It's a simple and nice story that shows how architecture is important in our lives and that we should never lose our creativity and faith that we can always do the undoable. 

P.S: I was so proud of F when he recognized "The Empire State Building" - it shows he knows where he lives. 

The way we roll

What's fantastic about New York is that you can organize your life to do almost everything walking distance. And when your kids start to outgrow the strollers, well you can always put them on different wheels.

So this is the way we move around.
